Youngsters urged to plan careers in financial services

SCOTTISH minister for learning and skills Alasdair Allan yesterday launched an initiative aimed at attracting the next wave of recruits into the bruised financial services sector.

A new website showcases the diverse range of jobs available and aims to combat a lack of understanding about the sector and negative images created by the banking crisis.

The re:Think programme has been created by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in partnership with Scotland’s financial services skills gateway.

The minister was joined at the launch by pupils from Drummond Community High School in Edinburgh who won the last SDS Stock Market Challenge competition.

He said: “To compete successfully, both here and abroad, Scotland’s employers need a workforce equipped with the right kind of skills.

“The Scottish Government has highlighted finance as being key to the economy and resources such as re:Think will help enable people to gain the skills and knowledge needed to help them prosper.”
