Winterkorn to stay at Volkswagen helm

Volkswagen's chief executive, Martin Winterkorn, 63, will continue in charge for a further five years after the German car giant revealed yesterday that it had extended his contract.

The decision by Volkswagen's supervisory board was unanimous, it said. Winterkorn, whose current contract expired in December, was appointed chief executive of Europe's largest car maker in 2007.
