Wife kicks cheating Sir Fred out of family home

Former Royal Bank of Scotland chief executive Sir Fred Goodwin has moved out of his family home in Edinburgh after being asked to leave by his wife.

Friends of the couple have said the move came after Lady Joyce Goodwin was left humiliated when her husband’s affair with a senior colleague was exposed in the Houses of Parliament.

The banker took out a super-injunction to try to prevent reporting of the affair, which was later exposed by an MP.

Although his wife appeared to stick by her husband, sources close to the family have now said Lady Goodwin felt their marriage was over after the attention the couple faced when the affair became public knowledge.

Sir Fred left the couple’s £3.5 million mansion in Colinton as long as a month ago.

It is now believed the former banker, who was at the helm of RBS between 2001 and 2009 and was criticised for his role in the financial crisis, has moved back to another property owned by the couple in the Grange, which was targeted by vandals in 2009.

MP John Hemming revealed that the controversial figure had taken out a superinjunction using parliamentary privilege in March.

Two months later, fellow Liberal Democract and peer Lord Stoneham raised the case in the House of Lords, revealing that the subject of the order was a sexual relationship.
