Where are the highest and lowest paid cities in Scotland?

Aberdeen workers had, on average, the highest weekly salaries in Scotland during 2015.

Aberdeen was the highest paid city in Scotland in 2015, an annual report has found.

Despite the oil-price slump hitting the Granite City hard, its workers still enjoy some of the highest salaries in the country, earning on average £617 per week.

The findings come from the Cities Outlook 2016 study, which revealed mixed economic results for post-crash Britain.

Employment levels in UK towns have recovered from the 2008 financial crisis and between 2010 and 2014, UK cities gained almost 1 million new jobs.

However since 2010, average salaries in UK cities have also slumped.

Edinburgh and Aberdeen make up two of the 14 cities that are achieving Chancellor George Osborne’s goal of a “higher wage, low-welfare” economy.

Dundee was found to have the lowest weekly wage out of the four Scottish cities examined.

Topping the UK weekly earnings table was unsurprisingly London (£675), followed by Crawley (£641), Slough (£636), Reading (£619) and then Aberdeen.

Propping up the lower end of the table were the English towns of Wigan (£418), Mansfield (£418), Burnley (£416), Southend (£403) and Huddersfield (£399).

But before you pack your backs and head to London it is worth noting that the analysis did not examine the cost of living, which is much higher in the UK capital.

Dundee: £496.60 / 3.2 per cent

Edinburgh: £564.60 / 1.57 per cent
