Web-based EID system claims 100% accuracy

A NEW web-based system to help sheep farmers meet complex electronic identification (EID) and stock movement regulations is claiming 100 per cent accuracy in recording sheep movements.

The 1 million development will be welcomed by sheep farmers who are struggling to meet the 100 per cent accuracy levels demanded by the European Commission.

Angus Stormont Darling, managing director of StockTrace, said: "The StockTrace system allows farmers to meet all the requirements of EID recording with simple identification using a reader allowing automatic data collection and compliance with all current rules.

The company hopes to launch a similar programme for cattle in the autumn.

The set-up cost is 1,150, including the purchase of an electronic reader, and an annual subscription of 250.
