Vodafone eyeing German takeover

MOBILE phone network operator Vodafone is considering a bid for German cable operator Kabel Deutschland, a source said last night.

Germany’s Manager Magazin yesterday reported that the head of Vodafone’s German operations had put forward a plan to buy the cable company to the group’s senior management.

Vodafone, unlike its main competitors, owns only mobile operations in continental Europe.

No final decision has been made at Vodafone about a formal offer, the source said.

Vodafone and Kabel Deutschland declined to comment.

The news comes only a week after John Malone’s Liberty Global struck a deal to buy cable network group Virgin Media.
