There was a slight drop in new car sales in Scotland last month, according to industry figures.

Registrations totalled 15,025 units in November – down 0.7 per cent on a year earlier. UK figures published on Friday revealed a modest rise in sales.

Scottish sales for the year as a whole are likely to be “very similar” to 2014, the Scottish Motor Trade Association (SMTA) noted.

The best seller north of the Border last month was the Vauxhall Corsa, followed by the Dacia Sandero and Renault Captur.

SMTA chief executive Sandy Burgess said: “We are obviously disappointed to see a slight downturn in the new vehicle registrations for November, however we shouldn’t lose track of the fact the year to date figures for Scotland are showing as increased by 0.2 per cent on 2014 despite the current challenges around several of the higher-volume manufacturers.

“I would be reasonably confident that we will now see 2015 ending on a figure very similar to 2014, which given the aforementioned challenges will be a most welcome outcome for the industry.”
