US tech firm Cloudwick Technologies chooses Glasgow

A US technology firm is setting up its European headquarters in Glasgow in a move which will create scores of jobs.

Californian-based Cloudwick Technologies announced the investment following the award of £500,000 of Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) funding from Scottish Enterprise.

Cloudwick, one of the biggest big data solutions and services companies in North America, said the establishment of a Glasgow HQ will allow it to serve the European operations of some of its major US clients and seek further opportunities for international expansion.

News of Cloudwick’s investment, which will create 58 Glasgow jobs, follows the publication of the EY Scotland Attractiveness Survey last month. It noted that software was the top performing sector for foreign direct investment (FDI) projects into Scotland, up 170 per cent on the previous year.

Paul Lewis, MD of Scottish Development International, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Cloudwick to Scotland. RSA is one of the key tools we have to encourage both Scottish and foreign companies to expand and grow in Scotland and this is absolutely vital for continued economic growth.”

Harshdeep Singh, director of operations for Cloudwick in Europe, said: “We are excited to begin our European journey from Scotland, one of the fastest growing Big Data ecosystems in the world.

“We are a leader in the North American market with a 100 per cent year-on-year growth and we aim to achieve the same growth levels in the EU by bringing our extensive experience from the US.”

Cloudwick’s customers include AMEX, Bank of America, Comcast, Visa and Walmart.
