US alliance for medical software firm

A SOFTWARE firm based in Glasgow is looking to win a slice of a $50 million (£32m) market after forming a strategic alliance to roll out its medical records system in the United States.

AxSys Technology yesterday unveiled a $1m deal with Santa Clara County Independent Physician Association (SCCIPA), which will see its internet-based Excelicare system being used by more than 800 doctors.

The firm has also formed a partnership with Pacific Partners Management Services, a company owned by SCCIPA, which could mean the system is rolled out to doctors serving about three million patients.

The software is used at 100 NHS sites in the UK.

After a series of deals, AxSys said it expected turnover to nearly double this year to 5m, with pre-tax profits forecast to rise from 96,000 to more than 600,000.

The company has increased the headcount at its Glasgow headquarters from 31 to 39, in addition to the 160 staff at its development centre in India.
