Two Big Ears, founded in 2013 by University of Edinburgh graduates Varun Nair and Abesh Thakur, has already signed up more than 800 developers since releasing a “beta” version of its 3Dception software development kit in April last year.
The company is now poised to grab a share of the fast-growing virtual reality sector, which is forecast to see consumer software sales soar from $947 million (£614m) this year to $2.8 billion in 2018 as demand grows for devices such as the Oculus Rift headset and Samsung’s Gear VR.
Thakur, the firm’s chief executive, said: “The technology platform we have developed through 3Dception is unique and will allow content creators to generate richer and more detailed experiences.”
Two Big Ears recently bolstered its board with the appointment of former Wolfson finance chief George Elliott and Neil Heywood, chairman of Codeplay Software, as non-executive directors.
