Tui Travel unveils jump in quarterly profit

Tour operator Tui Travel today reported a 21 per cent surge in third-quarter profits and said it remained “pleased” with current trading.

The firm, which is planning to merge with its German parent Tui, said underlying operating profits grew to £92 million in the three months to the end of June, up from £76m a year earlier.

Chief executive Peter Long said: “We remain pleased with progress in summer trading, despite strong comparatives, and are achieving higher average selling prices across mainstream overall.”

Long added that Tui Travel was “delighted” with progress in developing its online operations, with bookings over the internet accounting for more than half of summer holidays sold so far.
