Tobermory's Cafe Fish up for sale as a '˜perfect' catch

A renowned Isle of Mull restaurant has gone on the market for some £500,000 as it looks to line up a new owner.

Cafe Fish, an award-winning seafood restaurant in Tobermory, is currently up for sale at £500,000, despite its current owners admitting that “business has never been better”.

Situated on the upper floor of the CalMac Pier in an original Art Deco building, the restaurant has an indoor dining area with 38 covers and a terrace which accommodates a further 50.

The business holds a registered fish buyers licence, so the restaurant can purchase fresh produce directly from local fishing boats.

In 2017 it gained the title of Seasonal Restaurant of the Year at the Scottish Food Awards.

Josh Hill, business agent at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, said: “Cafe Fish presents the perfect opportunity for an owner-operator or chef to take advantage of arguably one of the best restaurants within Scotland’s Inner Hebrides.

“The lease is available until at least 2036 and we expect Cafe Fish will attract a mixture of buyers from first-time entrants to experienced restaurateurs.”

First opened in 2006, the family-run restaurant is owned and operated by cousins Jane Gill and Liz McGougan, who decided to sell to be closer to their loved ones.

They said: “Tobermory is a magical island – the landscape and the warmth of the community get under your skin and it feels very much like home, but time moves on and so have our personal circumstances.

“It’s ironic because business has never been better, but we both feel it’s time to hand the reigns over to someone with the passion and commitment to drive this business on to even greater things.”
