Thameslink contract goes to Siemens

Germany's Siemens has beaten British competition to win a contract to build and maintain 1,200 railway carriages for the Thameslink upgrade yesterday.

The UK government was criticised by unions and the opposition after it emerged the carriages would be built in Germany, although Siemens said the contract would create 2,000 jobs in Britain.
