Ted Baker buoyed by overseas growth

Ted Baker’s international expansion continued to pay off today after it revealed another strong rise in sales.

The fashion brand, which began as a shirt shop in Glasgow in 1988, said revenues rose 16.2 per cent in the 19 weeks to last Saturday. With the chain increasing its trading space by 12 per cent with last week’s opening of a store on London’s Brompton Road and its first shop in Tokyo, the figure implies like-for-like sales growth of about 4 per cent.

The group is following fellow UK brands Burberry and Mulberry by building a global footprint. Last year it opened stores in Hong Kong, Paris and San Diego. Over the coming months, the firm plans to add shops on Fifth Avenue in New York and Harbour City in Hong Kong.

In the UK, Ted Baker has 32 of its own shops, more than 140 concessions and ten “outlet” discount stores.
