Sweet news for Nestlé on sales

SWISS food giant Nestlé yesterday said strong emerging-market growth and price rises helped first-quarter underlying sales increase by 6.4 per cent, comfortably ahead of a market consensus forecast of 5.7 per cent.

Nestl shrugged off a sharp rise in commodity costs to register its robust performance, and confirmed its 2011 targets of sales growth of between 5 per cent and 6 per cent.
