Duncan, managing director of tech outfit SwarmOnline, is one of 12 international speakers and the only one from the UK lecturing at an annual gathering of technology experts on app development in California’s Silicon Valley.

The 28-year-old, who founded his company six years ago, will tell the 700-strong audience in San Francisco about how they can improve the performance and stability of the apps they build for their clients.

He said: “We have been working with major companies including E.ON, Veripos, ScottishPower and Vodafone and that is why we have shot to international prominence.”

Just 18 months ago, Duncan was running SwarmOnline largely as a one-man operation.

The firm now has ten full-time staff and is set to hit its turnover target of £1 million in the current financial year.

Polly Purvis, head of trade body ScotlandIS, said: “SwarmOnline is a fast growing company with a blue-chip customer base and a dedicated team; representing all that is great about the industry in Scotland.”
