Swan upping its losses at marts

INTERIM losses have widened at John Swan & Sons, the Edinburgh-based livestock auctioneer and estate agency.

The firm - which runs markets at Newtown St Boswells in the Borders and Wooler in Northumbria - posted a pre-tax loss of 82,000 for the six months to 31 October, compared with 75,000 in 2009. Turnover grew by 1.3 per cent to 949,000, but a drop in investment revenue widened the group's losses.
