Store’s £1bn plan for 10,000 jobs

SUPERMARKET chain Waitrose plans to spend £1 billion to open 100 new stores and create 10,000 jobs.

The chain, which has 264 outlets, said yesterday it would invest the sum over the next three years as part of ongoing expansion. It expected 3,000 of the jobs would be created in Scotland and the north of England, as it sought to build on its traditional strength in the south of England.
