Start-ups share £100,000 at Entrepreneuring Awards

Start-up businesses across Scotland last night shared more than £100,000 in cash prizes to help develop their bright ideas.

The Entrepreneuring Awards saw businesses from Entrepreneurial Spark’s Ayrshire, Edinburgh and Glasgow “hatcheries” compete to win funding.

Jim Duffy, founder and chief executive of Entrepreneurial Spark, which is the world’s largest free accelerator for start-up businesses, said: “The Entrepreneuring Awards have grown alongside our network of hatcheries, and the latest round is the biggest yet.

“The cash prizes are an excellent way of boosting some of our most promising businesses and accelerating their growth, and the events also provide valuable networking opportunities and pitching practice.”

The awards, supported by partners Royal Bank of Scotland and KPMG, aim to help early-stage businesses get off the ground and grow.

Among the winners from the Glasgow hatchery were Blind Spot Gear, FairSquaredUK, Fatburn Extreme, and Welltime.

The Ayrshire winners included Oor Wee Den, SEM Events, Tartan-Ice and The Little Art School.

Among the Edinburgh winners were Allatus, Arc-Net, Tie Club and UK Gift Box.

The Scottish awards were part of nine staged at Entrepreneurial Spark’s hatcheries across the UK.
