SSE clinches gas deal with Shell

Utility giant SSE and Shell have agreed a ten-year supply agreement that should account for about 5 per cent of the Perth group’s annual gas requirements.

SSE – formerly known as Scottish & Southern Energy – said the deal fitted well with the purchasing profile it needs “to support its business contracts and generation requirements”. It added that it would reduce its reliance on market purchases.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, generation and supply director of SSE, said: “This transaction secures a long-term supply of gas for the UK market.”
