Spirent upbeat

TELECOMS testing firm Spirent said it expected a significant improvement in profits in the second half of its financial year and was preparing to return cash to shareholders.

The company, controlled by activist shareholder Sherborne Investors after a boardroom upheaval in December, said the impact of a recent operating review would deliver the profit rise. First-half pre-tax profits excluding one-offs came in at 8.1 million, up from 6.5m the previous year.
