Sparrows takes flight with 140 new jobs

OILFIELD engineering firm Sparrows yesterday unveiled plans to create 140 jobs, including 100 at its base in Aberdeen, as the offshore crane specialist races to meet £32 million-worth of new and extended contracts.

The company – which employs more than 1,600 staff, including about 1,000 in the UK – has already recruited 195 workers this year. Sites in Africa and Europe will also benefit from the latest jobs expansion.

Chief executive Doug Sedge said: “Our confidence in the global offshore market and our robust order book has given us the confidence to kick-start a major recruitment campaign. The positions will bolster our existing team to work on new and existing contracts and help us gear up capacity for further business.”
