Social network is not out of Kiltr

Scottish social networking start-up Kiltr has secured a third cash injection bringing total funding to almost £1 million in less than ten months.

The Glasgow-based firm, which is already half way to achieving its initial target of 20,000 users, has attracted backing from investors including Edinburgh-based venture capital firm Par Equity and the Scottish Investment Bank. The latest funding amounted to some £320,000.

Chief executive and co-founder Brian Hughes, pictured, said: “We are really pleased with the progress over the last 12 months.

“With almost seven times as many people with Scottish heritage living outside of Scotland as in it, the focus for Kiltr is to capitalise on these existing shared values and harness the power of social networking technology to support the growth of Scottish business, on an international scale.”

The site confirmed its 10,000th “beta” user at the weekend with Twintanglibles director Tim Wright opting to use the network to co-ordinate Glasgow’s activities in World Social Media Week from 19-23 September.

In recent months, Kiltr has established a marketing partnership with BAA Glasgow and secured its first major sponsor, aviation firm JetLogic.
