Resource Efficient Scotland, the Scottish Government programme designed to reduce energy usage, said the average SME could slash more than £19,000 off their power bills each year by adopting more efficient practices.

The body today launched a range of range of free services, including training events and a guide providing checklists and templates to help SMEs conduct an energy audit.

Marissa Lippiatt, head of resource efficiency at Zero Waste Scotland, said: “Businesses that take advantage and improve their energy efficiency can prepare their operations to face rising energy prices, increasing climate change legislation and the growing demand for environmentally responsible suppliers.”

Zero Waste Scotland estimates that Scottish organisations could save a combined £2.9 billion every year by using energy, water and raw materials more efficiently.
