Smartphone data leaps 70%

Data usage among users of Apple iPhones and other so-called smartphones has jumped by 70 per cent in just three months, thanks to soaring demand for mobile access to the likes of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Mobile network operator Three said the amount of data customers in Scotland used each week was growing at an "astonishing rate". Users are also spending more time accessing the internet and downloading apps.

The firm said that customers in Glasgow were using the most amount of data on their mobile phones.
