Sky adds bite to Scottish operations with 100 new jobs

Entertainment giant Sky is to create 100 jobs in Scotland as it expands its technology and customer support operations.

The roles will be based in Livingston with Sky's customer business systems team, which manages the technology set-up that supports the firm's operations, products and services.

It says the posts "command very competitive salaries" and will be aimed at people looking for a long-term career.

Scott Mackay, director of customer business systems at Sky, said: "We want to tempt high-calibre bright sparks who are the very best in their profession to build a long-term career with us. We are known for investing in our people and this is exactly our plan in expanding the team at Livingston."

Roles will include technical test analysts, software developers and project managers.

Sky's customer base passed the ten million mark recently and it has expanded into phone and broadband services. Its core TV business boasts shows such as vampire thriller Tru Blood and Boardwalk Empire.

Sky has contact centres at Livingston, Dunfermline and Uddingston. It employs 6,768 people north of the Border, making it Scotland's ninth largest private sector employer.

Sky's parent, BSkyB, is currently the subject of a takeover bid by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, which wants to buy the 61 per cent of shares in the firm it does not own.
