Senior tier recruitment at Grant Thornton

Grant Thornton, the mid-tier accountancy firm, has launched a recruitment drive for “senior figures” as it bolsters its advisory service in the face of weak economic growth.

The firm, which has 27 offices across the UK, said it had already lured seven “key” individuals from the likes of rivals PwC and Lloyds Banking Group with its sights set on a further five.

The first to start is Wendy Ferguson, who has been appointed head of financial services for Grant Thornton in Scotland. She will head the firm’s newly-established business risk services team, alongside another appointee, Leigh McLuskey.

Andrew Howie, managing partner for Grant Thornton in Scotland, said: “The Scottish economy is unlikely to grow in the foreseeable future and every business needs to either do things differently or get a better return from what they are already doing if they are to stimulate growth.

“We are no different and see an opportunity to offer a deeper advisory service to help unlock potential – for ourselves and our clients.”

Ferguson added: “We are establishing a team that has the level of experience needed and delivers value for money. It is potentially a great time for growth, but one with challenges.”
