SeeSaw bringing Hollywood to UK's computer screens

ONLINE television service SeeSaw yesterday unveiled contracts with MTV and Comedy Central to broadcast American shows to British web surfers.

SeeSaw will rent programmes – including The Hills, South Park and Laguna Beach – to viewers who will then play them back on their computers.

The website, which recently launched a major TV advertising campaign, said it was close to signing deals with several major Hollywood studios.

The service already offers more than 3,000 hours of content – including programmes from the BBC, Channel 4 and Five – and said it will soon reach the 5,000-hour mark.

Chief executive Pierre-Jean Sebert said: "Since launch, SeeSaw has connected with one million TV-lovers across the UK. We are confident that our blend of free and premium programming will enhance our appeal to both viewers and advertisers."

SeeSaw is owned by Arqiva, which bought the assets of Project Kangaroo, the online TV joint venture between the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 that was blocked last year by the Competition Commission.
