Securing your energy bills – and helping to fight cancer

SCOTTISH Power has launched a new energy tariff allowing customers to tie into a fixed rate until the end of 2016.

The supplier’s Help Beat Cancer Fixed Price Energy January 2017 product also features a £10 donation made to Cancer Research every time a plan is taken out and then £10 a year until the tariff ends.

The deal hit the shelves yesterday, a month after British Gas owner Centrica warned of fresh energy price hikes this winter, and will cost the average household £1,350 a year. The rate is just £3 a year cheaper than the average standard tariff and there are considerably cheaper plans currently on the market, according to uSwitch. However, the supplier is aiming to appeal to households seeking peace of mind by protecting against further price increases over the coming years.

Tom Lyon, energy expert at uSwitch.com, said: “It’s great to see that ScottishPower is not only offering customers peace of mind by safeguarding them from price rises for a hefty three years, but it is also helping to beat cancer along the way.

“However, with a cancellation fee kicking in if a ScottishPower customer wishes to leave the supplier, it’s important for customers to consider their options fully before they sign up.”
