Scottish Widows appoints Lord Blackwell as new chairman

Scottish Widows has appointed Conservative peer Lord Blackwell as the new chairman of its group of companies.

Lord Blackwell, 59, only recently retired from his non-executive role at Standard Life after a nine-year-stint.

A former policy adviser to John Major’s government, Lord Blackwell joins the main Lloyds Banking Group board from today and takes up the role at Scottish Widows in September.

The former McKinsey and Co partner is also a board member of the Centre for Policy Studies think tank and a non-executive director of Ofcom.
