A Scottish gold mine is preparing to produce gold for the first time after a successful trial.

Australian mining firm Scotgold Resources - who run the Cononish mine near Crianlarich - will become the first company to produce gold in Scotland on a commercial basis.

The owners of the mine said early discussions indicate that gold produced from the trial could be sold “at a significant premium” because of its rare origins.

“The achievement of gold production provides tangible evidence of our progress and we appreciate the support of all our stakeholders in getting to this point.”
