Scottish Legal Review Briefing: WJM

This past year has been transformative for Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP, particularly since we welcomed Irwin Mitchell Scotland into our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices following our successful combination in 2023.

Thirteen Irwin Mitchell team members joined us at our office at St Vincent Plaza in Glasgow’s IFSD Central Business District, marking a significant expansion of our integrated service offering.

This has also been a year of notable achievements and strategic growth. Our Private Client team was honoured to receive the Team of the Year award at the Scottish Legal Awards in September – an accolade that reflects a dedication to providing empathetic and comprehensive estate, tax, and succession planning services.

Additionally, the launch of our first ever Inverness and Cromarty Firth (ICF) Green Freeport event alongside Irwin Mitchell last month was another highlight, attracting more than 100 attendees to discuss the economic potential of the Highlands through freeports.

The event allowed participants to gain insight into opportunities for investment and job creation in renewables, with speakers covering developments in offshore wind, trade, and community engagement.

Our dedication to fostering talent has also been key, with a wave of new trainees, recently qualified solicitors, and key internal promotions, including promoting two colleagues to partner. I look forward to seeing the fresh perspectives these new team members bring across our varied areas of practice.

Meanwhile, in the renewables sector, we are eagerly preparing for our annual seminar. This year’s theme, Achieving Alignment: the Realities of Delivering Net Zero, will delve into key topics such as biodiversity, grid integration, and insights into the UK’s energy landscape. Our event has become a vital forum for Scotland’s transition to a green economy, and we’re honoured to lead discussions that drive forward this essential work.

With our evolving collaboration with Irwin Mitchell, the growth of our teams, and a focus on emerging sectors, we are poised for a promising future.

WJM is excited to build on this momentum and continue delivering solutions for clients.
