Scottish employees in dark over pensions

SCOTTISH companies are failing to get employees "engaged" with their pension schemes, new research shows.

More than half the pension information sent to workers goes into the bin unread or without being understood, according to a study by Hymans Robertson.

It found that while 85 per cent of pension and personnel managers in Scotland believed their scheme members were "engaged", almost half of Scottish employers had no formal pension communication policy, while a quarter of Scottish defined contribution scheme members did not know where to go for help in understanding their pension.

The study also revealed that a quarter of Scottish employees did not think there was a pension scheme available in their workplace.
