Scottish airport numbers soar ahead

SCOTLAND’S main airports experienced a rise in passenger numbers in March, according to figures published yesterday.

Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports all reported increases of more than 4 per cent in the number of people through their doors, when compared to the figures for the same month in 2013.

Aberdeen enjoyed the biggest growth in numbers in percentage terms. It reported a rise of 8.2 per cent last month to 289,193 passengers.

Scotland’s busiest airport,Edinburgh, had a 4.9 per cent increase in March passenger numbers compared to last year. More than 730,000 passengers travelled through the airport last month, with the figures showing increases in domestic and international passenger numbers.

Passenger growth at Glasgow Airport continued, withalmost 532,000 people travelling through it last month, representing a year-on-yearincrease of 4.1 per cent.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Passengers will start to notice changes in our main terminal which has been undergoing an extensive refurbishment.”
