Scots shop more but spend less

SCOTS visited shops more but spent less money in the last month, according to the British Retail Consortium.

Although “footfall” rose 0.2 per cent between May and July, the group warned that many were spending less.

Instead of regular large spending trips, many are making more frequent, smaller visits to shops.

Despite the report also showing that as many as one in nine shops in Scotland lie empty, that is better than elsewhere in the UK, the group said.
