Scots pipped to top roles, but more gaining permanent posts

MORE than a quarter of senior jobs in the Scottish financial services sector are being filled by candidates from outside Scotland, according to a survey published today.

Some 28 per cent of jobs paying more than £50,000 a year have gone to people from Dublin, London, Luxembourg and other financial centres, according to Change Recruitment Group’s study.

Associate director Andrew Welsh said: “The established market and the high standard of living make it relatively easy to attract candidates to Scotland.”

News of the competition from external candidates came as figures from Bank of Scotland’s monthly jobs survey showed the number of people placed into permanent jobs increased in April at its fastest rate for a year.

Donald MacRae, chief economist at Bank of Scotland, said: “The number of people appointed to jobs grew markedly over the month.

“This reinforces hopes that the slowdown in the Scottish economy experienced at the end of last year has not extended into 2012 and that we may yet see modest growth for the remainder of the year.”

A report by the Scottish Building Apprenticeship & Training Council found more building trainees were taken on in 2011 compared with 2010.
