Scots not so into celebrity scents

WHEN buying perfume Scots prefer to buy a scent associated with a particular fashion designer – rather than a celebrity – according to new sales figures from Superdrug,

Donna Karan’s DKNY Be Delicious is the most popular scent for Scottish women, while Calvin Klein’s CK One Shock man is the male best seller.

The Superdrug Fragrance Map of Britain shows how taste in perfume varies in different parts of the country.

Perfume buyers say the country is split between areas which prefer a perfume to be associated with a fashion house and those who choose a perfume inspired by a celebrity.

In many parts of the country the best seller list is dominated by celebrity inspired scents –with perfumes endorsed by Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Britney Spears the best sellers.

Britney Spears’ Midnight Fantasy tops the most-wanted list in Manchester, Liverpool Staffordshire and Sheffield while Beyonce’s Heat is most popular in Ireland, Essex and Birmingham. David Beckam’s Homme is the most popular scent for men in Oxford and in Essex.

Traditional floral scents are still popular for women in the west country region with Anais Anais top in Devon and Bristol.

Perfume buyers in London also like their designer labels, with Paco Rabanne for men and CK One Shock for women top of that list.

Andrew Groom, Superdrug buying director, said: “It’s interesting to see that this year celebrity fragrances have made a real resurgence.

“Vogue has given celebrity perfumes their seal of approval and the country is now split pretty much into those places where it’s the famous face fragrances that rule, and those which stick to their designer classics.”
