Scots families cutting back in recession

ALMOST a third of Scots have made major cutbacks to their spending due to the recession, research out today says.

A study into changing attitudes by individuals and families by the Post Office revealed that 15 per cent of Scots had suffered sleepless nights because of money worries, while 30 per cent had slashed their outgoings.

It also found that the downturn had forced more people to address money matters, with 35 per cent of Scots more interested in financial issues than ever before. Nearly 30 per cent are talking about money more than they did before the recession and 72 per cent are taking more time to find good deals on products and services.

Yet while more than a quarter of 18-30 year-olds save more than they did before the downturn, just 10 per cent of the 31-50 age group are putting more aside.
