Scots drinks companies toast £300,000 Asda deals

Three Scottish distillery businesses have signed contracts totalling more than £300,000 to supply Asda stores north of the Border.

Edinburgh Gin, Tullibardine Distillery and Valt Vodka have also launched a number of new products as part of the agreements with the supermarket giant, which said it had now increased its home-grown Scottish alcohol offering to its largest ever.

Heather Turnbull, regional buyer for Asda Scotland, said: “With sales of gin predicted to reach over £1 billion by the end of 2016 and the whisky and vodka sectors continuing to perform well, it’s clear that consumers’ taste palates are becoming increasingly sophisticated.”

Gin lovers can now purchase the original Edinburgh Gin at 55 Scottish stores, as well as Edinburgh Rhubarb and Ginger Gin Liqueur, which is exclusive to Asda.

Alex Nicol, co-founder of Edinburgh Gin, said: “The gin and spirits industry has seen significant growth.”
