Sales on a downturn at Game Group

VIDEO games retailer Game Group yesterday warned that sales would decline throughout this year and turned to a former Vodafone chief to help revive its fortunes.

The company, battling a "challenging" market and fierce competition, saw like-for-like sales fall 12.3 per cent in the 19 weeks to 12 June and said sales would stay in the red for the rest of the year.

Game Group has appointed Ian Shepherd, former consumer director of Vodafone, as its chief executive after the sudden departure of its former chief, Lisa Morgan, in April.
