Rupert Murdoch to win EU backing for Sky bid

RUPERT Murdoch's News Corp is next week expected to win European Union regulatory clearance to acquire full control of broadcaster BSkyB without the need for any concessions.

News Corp, which owns the Sun, the Times and the Sunday Times, wants to buy the 61 per cent of BSkyB it does not already own for 7.8 billion.

The EU has been reviewing whether the deal has any significant anti-competitive impact

The UK communications regulator Ofcom is also reviewing the deal to see if it will give News Corp too much control of the media.
