Royal Bank appoints chief administrative officer

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) this morning named Simon McNamara as its new group chief administrative officer.

The Edinburgh-based lender said that McNamara, who joins from Standard Chartered Bank, will be a member of the group executive committee with responsibility for “all aspects of the group’s back office infrastructure, including technology, operations, property services and procurement”.

He replaces Ron Teerlink, who last year announced his intention to retire from RBS.

McNamara will take up his position in the third quarter.

RBS chief executive Stephen Hester said: “We are very pleased to have recruited someone of Simon’s calibre to this vital position.

“Simon brings with him a great track record and particular breadth of experience in banking technology matters. He will be a strong addition to our team.”

Hester added: “I’d like to thank Ron for his dedication and leadership throughout many years of service. He has been a key figure on the management team and a valued friend and colleague.

“He leaves RBS with our very best wishes for the future.”
