Rice to stand down from SSE board in July

Power supplier SSE today said that Lady Susan Rice is to step down from its board after ten years’ service at the end of its annual meeting in July.

Rice, who has served as the Perth-based utility’s senior independent director since 2007, is also managing director of Lloyds Banking Group’s operations in Scotland. In addition, she is a non-executive of the court of the Bank of England and supermarket group Sainsbury’s.

SSE chairman Lord Smith of Kelvin said: “I would like to thank Susan for everything she has done since she joined the board of SSE.

“In particular, she has brought to the role of remuneration committee chairman diligence and judgement that has been vital at a time when publicly-listed companies are under such scrutiny. I know Susan will continue to play an important part in businesses and organisations throughout the UK.”

Along with her corporate roles, Rice chairs the boards of the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Edinburgh Festivals Forum.

SSE also announced today that her fellow non-executive, Thomas Thune Andersen, will be leaving after its annual meeting to become chair of the board of directors at Danish energy firm Dong.
