RBS executive Mark Stokes joins Metro Bank

Metro Bank, the challenger lender with a focus on London and the south of England, has hired Royal Bank of Scotland executive Mark Stokes.

Stokes, a 25-year veteran of RBS and Lloyds will take up the role of managing director of commercial banking at Metro. He has most recently been heading up the corporate business banking operation at Williams and Glyn.

Metro Bank is known for its brightly coloured branches, which it describes as stores, and extended opening hours. It is now looking to increase its presence in business banking as well, with Stokes’ appointment aimed at furthering this goal.

Metro’s chief executive, Craig Donaldson, said: “Mark will play a pivotal role in driving the business forward whilst ensuring our business customers continue to receive nothing less than the very best in customer service.”

Launched in 2010, Metro Bank now has 40 branches.
