The Utrecht site is the firm’s second in the Netherlands – its first foray into the mainland European market opened in Amsterdam last year.

Chief executive Rupert Campbell said: “Given the tremendous success of Powerleague Amsterdam, it’s clear there is a strong market for our offer in the Netherlands.

Earlier this year, Powerleague said it was embarking on a major expansion drive that will see it open 13 centres over the next three years, backed by a £40 million investment from private equity owner Patron Capital. Its growth plans will focus on the south-east of England.

In 2012, the firm considered a possible takeover approach for East Kilbride-based rival Goals Soccer Centres, but a formal offer was not forthcoming.
