Plenty in the pipeline says Frontier IP

FRONTIER IP, the firm set up by Edinburgh-based Sigma Capital to commercialise university research, is working on a "strong pipeline" of opportunities for spin-out businesses from Scottish universities.

Frontier was spun out from Sigma in May last year and floated on the Plus stock market through a reverse takeover of ARH Leisure.

The company has set up two venture funds for investment in spin-out opportunities from Robert Gordon University and the University of Dundee and also has equity in four companies that have already been established.

Frontier's half-year results to 31 December 2009 – released yesterday – showed the company made a pre-tax loss of 97,000 on revenues of 85,000 with cash balances at the end of the year standing at 469,000.

Chairman Neil Crabb said prospects for the company, in which Sigma is the major shareholder, remained "very positive".

"The pipeline for spin-outs with both university partners continues to build and we are working on a number of projects," he said. Robert Gordon University holds warrants over ten million shares in Frontier.
