People: New year, new job, new challenges

Scotland's financial services sector has got the new year off to a busy start, with a slew of appointments.

Jamie Daniels, formerly of Barclays Wealth, has joined Edinburgh-based fund manager Cornelian as associate director in the firm's private clients and charities team.

Daniels will work alongside Marcus Brooks, the firm's head of private clients and charities, to manage Cornelian's portfolio, which has grown from 40 million when the company was founded ten years ago to its present 440m. Brooks says: "We are delighted to welcome Jamie and the contribution that his considerable skills and experience will bring to our private client and charity business."

Also on the move is Samantha Bett, who has taken up the role of associate director in the Edinburgh office of JC Rathbone Associates, the financial risk manager and structured finance adviser.

Bett previously worked for HBOS treasury services, first as director of corporate treasury sales and most recently as head of foreign exchange (FX) sales in Scotland. She also held roles at Clydesdale Bank and Bank of America.

Jackie Bowie, head of the firm's Edinburgh office, says: "We are delighted to welcome Sam to JCRA.

"She brings a wealth of experience in FX and interest rate markets, and our clients will benefit greatly from her knowledge and expertise."

Williams de Bro's Edinburgh office has also been on the recruitment trail. The private client portfolio management firm has appointed David Rolland as an investment assistant.

Rolland - who read English literature at Aberdeen University before completing a post-graduate degree in journalism - joins from KPMG, where he spent three and a half years working in the accountancy firm's business development and marketing team. Murray Mackay, executive director at Williams de Bro in Scotland, says: "In addition to a wealth of investment skills, David has worked on numerous award schemes and will bring an ability to articulate our firm's message and help reflect our own successes over the past year."
