People: John Sturrock uses tenth birthday bash to launch mediation book

ADVOCATE John Sturrock, QC, is preparing to mark the tenth anniversary of Core Solutions, the mediation practice he set up at the turn of the century.

Sturrock - seen by many as a visionary in the Scottish legal sector - established the business to promote mediation as an alternative to more formal forms of dispute resolutions, including the expensive option of a hearing at the Court of Session.

Sturrock will use Core's birthday party on Thursday to launch Thinking Differently: Making a Difference Using Mediation, a book that includes chapters from 30 senior mediators.

Sir David Edward, QC, one of Scotland's best-known mediators, will also speak at the party, with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers as the musical guests.

Staying with the legal sector: Kim Pattullo has left Shepherd & Wedderburn to join HBJ Gateley Wareing as a partner in employment law in its Edinburgh office. The team now has 11 partners and 45 staff.
