KUDOS to Kudos Financial Services, after the Aberdeen-based firm lured a former American International Group underwriter to head its new employee benefits division.

Alan Fergusson, Kudos's employee benefits director, says: "Yvonne's considerable expertise in a highly complex area of protection is a significant addition to our services at a time when companies are seeking maximum efficiency from benefits."

Sticking with the Granite City, Rathbones Investment Management is opening a North-east office on Monday, with a team comprising John Henderson, formerly head of Rathbones' Edinburgh office, and two former Brewin Dolphin directors, Norman Law and Meera Dennis. Henderson says: "We are excited to be bringing an on-the-ground presence to Aberdeen to serve both existing and, we hope, new clients."

It's been a busy time for financial services firms, with Royal London 360 – the group's international division, which handles offshore investments, savings and tax planning – promoting Manx-born Terry Kelly from head of customer services to director of customer operations.

Items landing in Kelly's in-tray include a review of the firm's dealing platform and designing a model for its Middle East, Far East and South Africa offices to complement its Isle of Man operations.

Meanwhile, Tom Slater has been appointed as deputy manager of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust.

James Budden, head of investment trust marketing at Baillie Gifford, said: "Tom will help James with investment selection and appraisal for Scottish Mortgage and also assist with the important task of shareholder communication and presentations."

Milk shake-up sees Graham's appoint non-family director

GRAHAM'S dairy has appointed the first non-executive director to its family board in the company's 71-year history.

Simon Thomson, pictured below, legal and commercial director of Edinburgh-based oil and gas giant Cairn Energy, said he would help the company to explore new opportunities – though presumably not digging holes in India or Greenland.

Chairman Robert Graham said: "While our long-term focus remains to look after our farmers, customers, suppliers and staff, Simon's board-level commercial experience and strategic focus will be invaluable."

The dairy was founded by Graham's grandfather in 1939 on the farm in Stirlingshire that has been tended by the family for five generations. The latest innovation from the dairy is vanilla ice cream – perhaps that sweetened the deal for Thomson to come on board?
