Optos has its eyes on growth in Europe sales

OPTOS, the Dunfermline-based maker of eye-scanning machines, is to double the size of its European sales team as the firm targets double-digit revenue growth.

Management expects a boost from a mixture of product development - after an upgraded version of one of its best-selling machines was launched before Christmas - and new products being distributed by its sales force.

In September, Optos signed a deal to sell three devices made by US firm Accutome.

And last month the Scots group completed the 9.2 million takeover of Australian firm Opto Global, which adds a further 20 devices to Optos' existing range of three products.

Chief executive Roy Davis told The Scotsman: "Over the past couple of years, we've focused heavily on North America and quite rightly so because it's our biggest market.

"But this year we're looking to grow sales in Europe and we're recruiting to help us do that."
